John Wayne: The Duke and Western Hero

John Wayne was as Marion Michael Morrison 26 Born May 1907 in Winterset in the Midwest of the United States. As Marion, who was always teased by peers because of his female first name, was a child, Winterset resembled the backdrop of one of the many films from the young Marion Michael the superstar John Wayne had to leave. A dusty main street, a few wooden huts. The streets had no name, the houses were numbered sequentially.

This desolate spot left America not suggest that he would bring great. Two names, however, made Winterset then but immortal. Besides John Wayne is from this backwater and the Golden Delicious Apple ...

As a teenager, John Wayne moved westward. He wanted to bring something to it necessarily wanted to study law and become a lawyer. At the University of Los Angeles, he became a star, but not because of too great intellectual power, but because of his athletic achievements at once. Just handed the scholarship that he had received as a football player, front and rear not to live.

John Wayne got a job as a handyman in film studios, a second as a newspaper boy. The latter he owes the nickname "The Duke". He was 1.92 meters tall, weighed nearly two hundred pounds, was talking, so it was a stately appearance. However, these attributes have nothing to do with the new nickname. John Wayne had a Airedale Terrier, whom he called "Duke". And because he was tired of being called Marion, he took the nickname he had missed the clientele (newspaper), with thanks.

End of the 20s, he had just turned 22, learned the man from Iowa, the key people in his life know. Johnford He took the man to the movie screen, put it in 1930 in "The Great Trek" one. In spite of failure of this film, the law school fell by the wayside. Duke Morrison, as he was called in his first films shot one strip after another.

Just before the filming of "Stagecoach" you missed him a new name. It considered and finally found the name JOHN WAYNE. This name should now be all the people around the world forever in the memory.

The newly crowned John Wayne could live well from his new work, so he was allowed to marry Josephine Saenz. Whose parents had long fought against to have a vagabond in the family. But rolled than the dollar (in his remarkable career earned John Wayne 150 million), they had to counter the emerging star nothing more. Because with the advent of sound film John Wayne was also because of his voice Whiskey Soaked a made man

Although Josephine and John had four children, they were never happy. The actor was not averse to flirting and no whiskey, his strict Catholic woman sat at home and looked after the offspring. John Wayne himself said by this time, "until you ask her priest before I can kiss you." That might not go well.
John Wayne was not grieving after his marriage, he had long since a new love. It was Marlene Dietrich from Germany. And liked the edgy cowboy. "A real man!" But ultimately the two were fundamentally different. The violent affair exploded, as Marlene began to brag about the qualities of their lover friend.

The usually consuming some cowboy loved the secrecy, the intimacy. Which he hoped to find at Esperanza Baur. The Mexican was the second Mrs. Wayne. They drank whiskey and it was said of having been formerly a prostitute. But luck was ill-fated. "Chata" Stupsnäschen as the Duke called his wife, had hair on the teeth. You do not realized that they should wait at home for your husband. She also loved to take the money of John Wayne sparing the people. There she cared not a whit that all of Hollywood clapped about it, she was an easy girl in Mexico. What people thought of her or how she performed it did not matter. There were violent scenes, public brawls, booze and reconciliations between her and John Wayne. As Esperanza but a revolver focused on her husband, and shot past this had had enough. He took refuge in his films. There it was even too rough, but compared to his marriage were the Western but easily digestible diet

Pilar Palette, like the two previous wives Latin American, as had other qualities. She was not only beautiful, but also gentle and patient. Three children Pilar gave the Duke, twenty years she remained at his side.

She was beside him as he prepares for "The Marshall" in 1970 with the Oscar - his only way - was excellent, and she had consoled him about his serious illness. Chain smoker Wayne - under 100 cigarettes a day's were never - was diagnosed with cancer in 1963, but he won the battle of life and death.
Pilar also tried to reassure the American hero at times, when he publicly intervened again in politics. John Wayne knew neither scruples nor had he ever felt the need to keep out of anything. An ardent patriot, he campaigned for the Vietnam War and were politicians unsolicited advice.

He had only one thing in mind: His America should be free of shirkers and subversives. The upright Americans had experience fighting the intellectual left. Some got it perfectly with the fear to do if John Wayne, hand on heart and conviction announced, "I thank God for every day that I have to grow up in America."

Long after his death it was revealed that he had worked in the 50s, eager for Joseph McCarthy In other words, he had denounced colleagues, which he imputed communist ideas. Also his hottest fans it was sometimes cold on the back when Wayne, who was already at the sight of the stars-and-stripes flag moist eyes, made politically wide.

Actor Ronald Reagan had "The Duke" liked to have in the White House - as Foreign Minister. But at least that was spared the Americans.

The spirit of the old cowboys, stir again and again even in modern times, disliked before all the children of John Wayne: The conflicts fought out a total of seven siblings with their Big Dad, it had to be. And had even Howard Hawks, meanwhile, directed by John Wayne movies like "Red River" and "Rio Bravo" shot, found: "John is at his best when he keeps his mouth ..."

John Wayne in April 1979, two months before it on 11 June in Los Angeles from cancer died.
Despite the differential Renzen Patrik and Ethan Wayne decided also to become an actor and Michael got into the business producers. Together with his father he founded a film production company in Hollywood. John Wayne himself wanted to get away from Stetson and vest. He wanted to have the luxury of not having to always sit on horses. His films include "Brannigan" on their own account, which then promptly flopped. In contrast, since "The Green Berets" epic - rallying calls for the Vietnam War - the blockbuster.

Maybe someday Pilar had enough of his boasting. The couple separated, but not divorced left. John Wayne was often seen in the company of his secretary Pat Stacy, but an affair, it was believed Pilar, since it had never existed ... (She had learned over the years to ignore liaisons.)

Even in the Old John Wayne was not quiet, only his health was badly bruised. In 1978 it had to be a heart valve replaced, one year later he fell ill once again from stomach cancer. The best doctors in the world could not save him. The serious illness carried him there. The cancer ate through his body, and he died on the night of 12 June after a long agony. He had refused all painkillers and was gone from the world, as he had lived: a hero!

John Wayne was buried in a cemetery in Los Angeles near three large trees overlooking the sea anonymous. There is still no grave stone. Nevertheless, said the "Duke" when he was death once, to stand on his grave stone:

"Feo fuerte y formal"

"He was ugly and strong, and a man with dignity."
